The Phantom lives

The Phantom Game Service will make its national television debut next week on G4’s “Attack of the Show”, according to officials from Infinium Labs this morning. Leading the way for the presentation will be none other than Kevin Bachus, Infinium Labs’ President and COO, who will go into further detail demonstrating the actual service and the system’s receiver unit. In addition, Bachus will also reveal Infinium’s plans for the service’s launch in North America and other global markets.

If you’re just joining us, by all means catch up on the story thus far.

Regarding the Phantom’s stubborn refusal to die, I have so many conflicting emotions. More people will get suckered into investing into the charade the longer it remains on the brink of death. The Phantom has been on the brink virtually since its inception, having taken up permanent residence with wife and kids shortly after the [H]ard affair, and just when everyone had forgotten about the whole mess G4 has to aid and abet the mad schemes of Mr. Bacchus.

It’s hard to imagine the TV appearance to be anything other than the same sunshine and lollipops we’ve heard from Infinium Labs before. Still, here’s how the show would play out in my mind:

Host Kevin Pereira: With us now is Kevin Bacchus, president of Infiunium Labs, the company behind the Phantom game console. Thanks for coming on the show, Kevin.

Kevin Bacchus: Thanks for having me.

KP: What have you been up to lately? The Phantom made a pretty big splash when it was first announced, and then we haven’t heard anything for months.

KB: Well, you may have heard about some of the inflammatory things being said about our console…

KP: Right, some websites said less-than-kind things about your true motives behind the money being raised.

KB: Yes, the Internet messageboard morons took quite a few shots at us, but as a wise man once said: if you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

KP: Is that really true though? I mean, things have been pretty quiet regarding the Phantom. You’ve been pushed out of the spotlight. I mean, we didn’t even see any trace of the Phantom at E3.

KB: chuckles Poor, naive Kevin. Infinium Labs may not have had a booth but you could say our presence was felt.

KP: I’m not sure what you’re talking about.

KB: Don’t you understand, you fool? We didn’t leave the gaming industry, the gaming industry came to us. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all now realize the error of their ways and follow the Infinium path to success: smoke and mirrors. Promises of content delivery over the Internet with fees to get you coming and going. A pretty shell of a console that we don’t let anyone touch because there’s nothing inside. Promises they won’t ever be able to keep. Pure Bacchus!

KP: But Mr. Bacchus, that’s evil!

KB: Quiet, you! It’s the future, and who are you to stand in the way? begins booming villainous laugh

KP: Noooooooooooo!

KB: starts coughing

KP: Do you need a drink of water? There’s a water cooler down the hall.

KB: Yes, thank you.

Keep in mind that I’ve never seen Attack of the Show so this may be totally off-base (e.g., they may not have a water cooler).
