Thanks, release-announcement-headline writers

Posted on Friday 3 June 2005

I’d like to take a second to thank the stalwarts at Gamespot that go the extra mile to make everyone’s day a little brighter. Rather than shovel another “FPS With No Distinguishing Characteristics 2: More Of The Same begins inexorable march towards bargain bin” headline onto the midden heap that is the daily gaming news scene, their writers take the time to do it with style. You can almost sense the optimism embued in each word. Sure, they may know that the latest crappy movie tie-in for what it is, but they stuff those jaded game critic feelings somewhere deep inside and let only relentless optimism pour out of their various orifices. Every game has a chance to be a winner, even this one! It isn’t long before they let all the cynicism out in a massive flood of misanthropy at the MX World Tour Featuring Jamie Littles of the world, but for holding it in for those few precious moments, I salute you.

Here’s but a taste of the plentiful bounty you have laid before us:

New TimeSplitters clocks in at the factory

Untold Legends journeys to factory

Katamari Damacy rolls off to factory

Forza Motorsport speeds to factory

Crash ‘N’ Burn smashes into factory, killing seven

Alien Hominid beamed up to factory

Lock On takes off for factory

Hitman: Contracts whacks factory workers

Delta Force: Xtreme deployed to factory

and my favorite:

BloodRayne 2 bounces off to factory

Other sites may dabble in this area, but Gamespot is truly the king of kings.
